What Are You Reading?

I am not a big reader. I mean I do read the newspaper and my free magazines I get in the mail, but not many books. I have managed to read 2 books in 2 weeks and I am so proud of myself. They are completely opposite and you might even wonder why I decided to read the 2 I did. All I can say is Dr. Oz & Oprah said to! :)

A few months ago Dr. Oz discussed the book Fifty Shades Of Grey” on his show. He said every woman in America should read this book, that it would be life changing. Who was I to go against doctor’s orders?  So I borrowed the book from a friend of mine and I read it, it only took me a day and a half to read. My husband and friends were in shock because I never read books. All I could say to that was once I started reading “Fifty Shades of Grey” I couldn’t put it down. Let me be honest here……I was a little disturbed and confused about why Dr. Oz thought this was so great and how he thought it would change my life forever. I mean did his wife read it? What did she get out of it? For those of you who have read it you know exactly what I mean. Don’t get me wrong I kinda want to read the other 2 books, but I am super embarrassed to even pick the book up at the book store. So I suppose I will wait for the next book to make the rounds with my friends and wait my turn to read it.

Now Oprah’s book choice was a lot more my speed. I knew about the book, “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch because she had him on her show a few years back. I watched Oprah that day thinking that Mr. Pausch was brilliant, loving, full of life, and I knew I had to read his book. I don’t want to give too much away because I want all of you to read this book. I will say that I have read it twice and it makes me feel good about my own life.  It inspires me to live bigger and encourage my children to dream as big as they want with no limits. After you read “The Last Lecture” watch Randy Pausch give The Last Lecture.

Let me know if you have read or will be reading either of these books. What did you think? Were they worth your time? Do you have any recommendations for the rest of us?
